In an unprecedented legal move, Arun District Council and Sussex Police successfully applied to magistrates for permission to close 31, Ash Grove, Bognor, because of alleged anti-social behaviour problems from the house.
Speaking this evening (June 5) as police boarded up the house, a local who did not wish to be named said: “We have had letters through the post from police telling us what’s going on. There’s been a lot going on. It’s obviously good that police now have powers to act quickly.

No one is allowed to enter the property for the next three months, if they do they risk going to jail or a hefty fine.
Applying for the closure notice, Arun District Council solicitor Helen Atkinson told magistrates: “You’ve heard from others about the impact this has had on the individual neighbours and community in a big sense.
“You’ve also heard about the various attempts at intervention by police, the council and other agencies. Unfortunately the problems have continued.

Chichester magistrates agreed with the authorities and granted the closure notice for the council-owned property.
