Hastings Pier is one of a number of buildings to be shortlisted for the RIBA (Royal Institute of British Architects) South East 2017 Awards.

The attraction, which reopened to the public last year, is one of 14 structures competing for top prize.

The pier, which was almost completely destroyed by a devastating fire in October 2010 before it reopened, was designed by dRMM Architects.

Hastings Pier, along with the 13 other shortlisted buildings, will be assessed by a regional jury with the winning ones announced at an awards evening and reception at Ascot Racecourse on Thursday, May 25.

The guest of honour will be RIBA president Jane Duncan.

Regional award winners will be considered for a RIBA National Award in recognition of their architectural excellence, the results of which will be announced in June.

The shortlist for the RIBA Stirling Prize for the best building of the year will be drawn from the RIBA National Award-winning buildings later in the year.

The pier first reoppened to the public last April, with an official gala opening celebration on May 21.
