Do we recycle?
I live in the London Road area and am fed up of seeing overloaded grey bins having been attacked by seagulls and litter strewn all over the pavements. Some residents don’t bat an eyelid and their litter spreads all over the road until the council workers do their regular, thorough weekly clean.
It is apparent from the content of the black bin liners that have been torn open that the house-holders have no intention of recycling, hence why the bin lids won’t close.

Hide AdI have recently moved from Lancashire where domestic recycling is of high priority - the grey bins (emptied fortnightly) are checked for what they contain, and if any recyclable item is seen, a large yellow ticket is attached to the grey bin. which is left unemptied. The householder in turn reluctantly has to take surplus waste to the local tip.
This council vigilance means only 25 per cent of total household waste goes in the grey bin, thus generating invaluable revenue through the recycling process.
Littering can result in an £80 fine. Surely residents who flout the rules (if they exist) and allow their waste to create ‘ugly’ streets should succumb to this penalty?
