Independent Lives’ Adur respite service set to restart
and live on Freeview channel 276
West Sussex charity Independent Lives organises activities for older people, people with support needs and people with dementia in the Adur area, to give carers a much-deserved break.
The respite service was temporarily closed almost a year ago to the day, at the start of the first national lockdown in 2020.

Catherine Goldsmith, day activities co-ordinator, said: “During this lockdown, and throughout the Covid-19 pandemic, carers of people with support needs or dementia have consistently put their loved ones before themselves, facing the challenges of disrupted support networks alongside the anxieties and loss of routine we have all faced.
“By safely restarting our respite service we want to encourage carers to take back some time for themselves, and to appreciate everything they have done for their loved ones.”
To ensure safety, the service will be supervised by experienced staff, fully-trained in effective PPE practice, and capacity will be temporarily reduced, with additional risk assessments put in place.

“The past 12 months have been long and difficult for all, especially for people caring and/or shielding. I know that any breaks or outings are very much needed, now more than ever, and am sure that Independent Lives will deliver a good service for their customers.”
