Purse thieves strike again
Following three separate incidents a police spokesman said they believe the culprits are a group of "semi-professionals", who come into the town every couple of weeks, on busy days, and that they operate in "quite a wide area".
The first reported incident happened at approximately 9am on Friday when a man discovered his wallet, containing 300, had been stolen whilst shopping at Ravenside B&Q.

Hide AdThe second incident happened just after midday at Somerfields when an elderly lady reported a purse had been stolen from her handbag.
Thieves were back at Ravenside again in the evening, and at approximately 7.30 targeted another elderly lady outside Tesco's.
A purse was snatched from her bag, which had been left unattended on a shopping trolley, as she packed shopping into her car.
The police spokesman said a few simple precautionary measures could help prevent people from being an easy target for the unscrupulous robbers:

Hide Ad"We want to remind people that there are thieves out there and not to leave bags in trolleys. If wearing a bag, wear it across the shoulder, and be aware of people bumping into them".
