FOOTBALL: Former Albion captain Danny Cullip's weekly column (November 19)

IT was a fantastic result for Brighton and Hove Albion on Sunday against Southampton '“ they're an in-form side in the league and to do it on their own patch was even better.

I couldn't make it to the game but watched on TV and thought we thoroughly deserved to win it and claim bragging rights on the south coast.

A great start for the new manager, and on his birthday, too. It must have been great for him and the whole side. It was nice to see my mate Charlie Oatway there and involved still as well. I know the players are very happy with the job he's doing and a few have even phoned up to thank him.

I'm absolutely delighted for Andy Crofts after being named as the new captain. He was skipper while I was at Gillingham. He is a great professional. He always, and I mean always, gives 110 per cent.

I know Andy very well and he is a great choice. He's a fantastic role- model and will set a great example to all the younger players in the squad.

They will learn a lot from him, as he is a model-pro on and off the pitch.

My Worthing Academy side had their game called off last week, and rightly so, as Worthing United didn't want us wrecking their pitch in the awful weather.
